32. Designer of the Week: Alber Elbaz

Spring 2010 Ready-To-Wear: LANVIN

-LADYLIKE-
-EMBELLISHMENTS-
-DRAPERY-

How can you not envision countless gowns with elegant drapery, perfect pleats, and sheer garments with soft palettes of color whenever Alber Elbaz's name is brought up in conversation? Elbaz, born in Casablanca, Morocco, has dipped his feet in countless waters, including working alongside Geoffrey Beene, enhancing Laroche collections, and designing for YSL. In 2001, Elbaz found his current home at the oldest extant living house fashion house, Lanvin. Each piece delivers perfection, whether it be the bearing of skin through timeless cuts up the leg or the extensive detail of embellishments added to each article. I'd like to point out his mixing of patterns, sheer material exposing the body underneath, and 20's/40's feel (along with his mix of Israeli fashion of color and drapery) show this collection to be one of the many lines paving the way this spring season. Despite your opposition to following trends Elbaz, I must let you know that you have set many of the trends to come. I hope you can deal with a leader role instead of a follower. I cannot say enough about his Spring 2010 Ready-To-Wear collection, but I am almost absolutely positive that most women would feel on cloud 9 to step into one of his ensembles.
